What is VSEO?

There were over 700 billion videos viewed last year and with YouTube getting over 2 million video views each day and Facebook over 2 billion video views each month, Video Search Engine Optimisation (VSEO) is quickly becoming a key part of any successful Digital Marketing campaign. It’s well known that video content captures an audience’s attention far better than plain text and graphics; this is why more and more businesses are choosing video as their star communication tool. So, with online video content increasing daily and forming over 60% of shared content, it’s no surprise that search engines are including videos in their search results.

VSEO is the same in principle as SEO, in that it’s how you optimise your video content and meta data, rather than your website (like in SEO), so that it shows for the keywords your audience searches for. Think about YouTube - once the video you’ve been watching finishes you’re presented with a set of related videos…this means you need to be thinking about how you tag and label all your videos so that they all link together, meaning once someone finds one of your videos, they find them all!

Working example

You create a promo video about your new range of funky t-shirts and upload it to your YouTube channel. The key thing now is to add a strong title such as ‘Funky T-Shirts release new range’, then add the tags: funky t-shirts, customisable t-shirts, cool t-shirts, new range etc; this combined with links to your video will ensure it’s found for the keywords you added into your tags and anchor text on backlinks.

How does VSEO fit into Digital Marketing?

Although a bit of a newcomer compared to SEO, VSEO’s role in Digital Marketing is growing. As video is known to be the content most likely to go viral, it’s a great tool for raising brand awareness through to product promotion. Viral content means traffic, backlinks and raised awareness; so when put like that VSEO’s a powerful part of any strong Digital Marketing strategy.
